The word “Sheds” in Australia is a general term used to cover most steel buildings, from small garden sheds to industrial sheds and everything in between. They generally are a rectangular shape with varying wall widths, lengths and heights. These are often used for storage and workshops on commercial and rural properties.Aussie barns, however, are generally made with a central shed section with an awning or lean-to on each side. The centre section is perfect for larger vehicles with the side awnings being used for smaller vehicles. Aussie barns are popular because of the flexibility they provide. For instance, it’s quite common to use the main central section for a tall vehicle and then separate the side awnings for a liveable building or home office.

Aussie and American barns both feature a raised central section and sloping awnings or lean-tos coming off each side. However, unlike American Barns, Aussie barn awnings do not have a drop or pelmet, and the awnings come off the internal shed at eave height.
