Building in Emerald: what to think about

Emerald works for a living - coal to the east, cotton and grain on the Nogoa flats, gemfields out west - and its sheds match: wide-span machinery sheds, high-clearance storage and workshops built for real equipment are the standard order, with dust sealing earning its money in every one. The climate is dry at 556 mm but summers are seriously hot, so ventilation and a light roof colour keep a workshop usable through January. The Nogoa's 2010 flood is still the local reference point - check flood mapping with Central Highlands Regional Council before setting slab height near the river. Wind is non-cyclonic A0; the engineering is routine, the spans are not.
