What To Consider When Designing Cattle Sheep Yard Covers?

Wondering if a yard cover is worth it? Here are some essential considerations that can majorly improve your farming operations.

Improved Handling Efficiency

Covered yards provide a more controlled environment for handling livestock, making tasks like mustering, vaccinating, and shearing safer and more efficient.

Increased Productivity

Sheep often need to be kept dry ahead of shearing or medical checks, and cattle can be more relaxed if they’re not exposed to harsh sun. A yard cover reduces stress, which can improve handling and overall livestock health.

Custom Layouts

Different farms have different yard footprints. Maybe you need 30 m x 24 m with a 3.5 m clearance for loading ramps, or prefer partial canopies for certain holding pens. We value-engineer each design to align with your existing operations and infrastructure.

Why True Blue Sheds?

Got Questions?

Get your Cattle Sheep Yard Cover questions answered here

Sheep yard cover heights typically range from 3 to 4 metres, but the ideal height depends on several factors. Consider slightly lower roofing for easier sheep handling or higher for multi-purpose areas and machinery access. If you’re unsure about your design, our experienced team is here to help.

Incorporate existing assets like your woolshed or fence lines, as well as ups and downs in your terrain. Evaluate how much room you might need for a loading ramp, plan around existing fence lines or woolsheds, and ensure your structure’s design is verified for wind load, terrain, and livestock flow. Our site-specific engineering checks factors such as wind speed to account for column placement and other details.

Prices depend on span width, height, and personalisations like awnings, access points, or partial sidewalls. Tell us about your yard layout and location and we’ll happily provide a 100% custom quote.

It varies a lot: some farmers choose around 20 m x 18 m for smaller herds, while others go 40 m x 24 m or bigger. We can adapt spans up to 30 m or more.
