Want to reduce your energy bills or tap into off-grid living? Equipping your shed for solar is an increasingly popular choice among Aussies. True Blue Sheds can incorporate solar load capacity right into the engineering phase, ensuring your steel structure handles the extra weight and wind resistance of rooftop panels. Whether you plan to run a workshop off sustainable power or simply cut your energy bills, we can advise on the best roof angle, wind rating, and support beams for your setup.

We build with BlueScope® steel frames, site-specific engineering, and flexible design options—so you can enjoy everything from a single-bay storage shed with basic solar capacity to an expansive multi-bay build for large off-grid usage. Curious how many panels fit on a 9m x 12m roof? Or wondering if your existing shed can take the extra load? Let us know, and we’ll happily advise you.

What To Consider When Designing Sheds With Solar?

Thinking about solar for your shed can open a world of benefits, but there are crucial factors to keep in mind if you want optimal performance and longevity.

Roof Direction & Angle

For maximum solar capture in Australia, a roof pitch around 10°–20° is often suggested, facing north if possible. If you’re planning from scratch, our design tools let you tweak the angle to match your location’s solar potential.

Structural Capacity & Wind Loads

Solar panels add weight, plus they increase wind drag on the roof. Incorporating solar-ready engineering from day one is simpler (and usually cheaper) than retrofitting later.

Electrical Infrastructure

If you plan to power tools or even go off-grid, let us know. We can design the shed with space for batteries, inverters, or extra clearance for cable runs.

Insulation & Thermal Efficiency

Many owners who choose solar also want good insulation to keep their shed cooler. We can suggest lighter COLORBOND® roofing (like Surfmist®) for reflecting sunlight while your panels are in place.

Why True Blue Sheds?

With solar sheds in high demand across Australia, True Blue Sheds is a top choice for cost-effective, robust, green solutions. We’ve spent years refining cost-effective, robust, green solutions—seamlessly integrating renewable energy into custom sheds is our expertise. Our sheds with solar give you complete peace of mind with site-specific load calculations and optional extra BlueScope® steel framing for panels. Got Questions?

Yes. Factoring in solar load capacity at the design stage is important to ensure proper framing, saving you time and money down the road.

Almost always, but it requires the right panel array and battery setup. Many people run lights, power tools, and even refrigeration off solar—ask our experts for advice on your specific build.

It may, but you’ll need an engineer’s assessment to confirm the structure can handle the extra load and wind resistance. We’ll happily help you out with this step!

This depends on roof size, angle, and clearance from edges or ridges. Many Aussie owners fit around 6–12 panels on a 6m x 9m roof, but it varies widely.

Recent changes often require new Class 7 buildings to incorporate solar capacity or at least be designed for it. We can assist you with meeting your local code requirements.

Yes—north-facing is ideal in most of Australia, with angles commonly around 15°–20° for better year-round performance.

Federal or state-level schemes may be available, particularly if you’re connecting to the grid. The government’s Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES) website and other official resources are places to look for current rebates.

Depends on your energy usage. Basic lighting might require just a couple, while full off-grid operation with machinery can need upwards of 10+ panels.

Typically, a 4kW array can handle most home lighting and some mid-range appliances. The exact capacity depends on your energy consumption patterns.

They produce some power in overcast conditions but at a much-reduced capacity. Ask us about how to maximise your output based on seasonal variations in your area.
